Other items
There are many other items that we need in addition to the tools we refurbish. Serviceable drill bits, nails, screws, and other fixings are needed to be sent out with the tools (please – no rusty fixings). We also take toolboxes.
We take sewing and knitting machines, both manual and electric. Please ensure that the foot pedal is provided with an electric machine (spare pedals are difficult to source).
We also take haberdashery, wool, and material suitable for clothing for sewing/tailoring activities (preferably wrapped).
We take flat screen computers (desktop and laptop) with Windows 8 or later – the screen must be at least 17″ (diagonal). Discs are “cleaned” of any possible user information before they leave our premises, using an approved disc cleaner. Please provide a password so we can use the machine, and the charger if the machine is portable/battery powered.
We do not take printers and other peripherals (these need consumables which are expensive or not readily available in Africa).
Recovered metal
A significant part of our operating costs is met by selling items not suitable to send to Africa, and dismantling unserviceable items for saleable metal, thus reducing landfill. Broken items are welcome if they contain copper, brass, aluminium, or lead. We are particularly pleased to receive electrical cable, which we strip down and sell for scrap.
